GOD MEANS IT FOR GOOD
PART X
Joseph, who is in charge of the distribution of the grain in Egypt, recognises his brothers but they do not recognise him so he puts them through some tests to find out if they have changed. He demands as well that they return with their youngest brother as you can read in Genesis 42:14-17
Joseph said to them, "It is just as I have told you: You are spies. And this is how you will be tested: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not leave this place unles your youngest brother comes here. Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies." And he put them all in custody for three days.
Joseph allows his brothers a taste of what he has been through, having spent a number of years in prison The brothers, no doubt, are concerned about his demand that they return to Egypt with their youngest brother for they know their father Jacob will not let him leave his side.
